What will I study?

All new learners interested in Beauty can start on a level 1 if they still need to attain their Math & English

All new learners interested in Beauty will start on either the Level 2 VRQ Diploma in Beauty Therapy with English and maths, L2 Diploma in Beauty Therapy VRQ no English or math's or L2 Diploma in hair and Beauty and will study theoretical aspects of the subject to apply to practical tasks. Learners will be on the correct study programme dependent on GCSE grades achieved.

Level 2 VRQ Diploma in Beauty Therapy with English and Maths

Entry requirement: three grade 3 GCSEs or above

Level 2 VRQ Diploma in Beauty and hair combined

Entry requirement: three grade 3 GCSEs or above

The Level 3 Diploma in Beauty Therapy Techniques (Full time) covers a wide range of practical skills and knowledge required for working in this industry.

Entry requirements: 4 GCSEs grade C/4 or above to include English or Maths. You will also have had to complete either an NVQ or VRQ Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Therapy to gain the required skills and knowledge to begin the Level 3 diploma.

Core topics include:

Working with colleagues within the beauty industry

 Monitor and maintain health & safety

Client care and communication

 Promote and sell products and services

 Provide body massage

 Provide Indian head massage

 Provide hot stone therapy massage

Provide facial electrotherapy treatments

Provide Body electrotherapy treatments

 

The Level 3 Diploma in Beauty Body Spa Therapy (Part time) covers a wide range of practical skills and knowledge required for working in this industry.

Entry requirements: Interest in a holistic pathway and level 2 literacy 

Core topics include:

Working with colleagues within the beauty industry

Monitor and maintain health & safety

Client care and communication

Promote and sell products and services

Provide body massage

provide massage using pre-blended aromatherapy oils 

Monitor and maintain spa area

Provide spa treatments

Provide Indian head massage

Provide hot stone therapy massage

 

For learners who fall short of the Level 2 entry requirements, we offer an introduction to Beauty Therapy through  a skills and employability pathway or if you are undecided on hair or beauty there is a Combined hair and Beauty L2 . Skills and employability qualification is a support role within a commercial beauty type environment, and includes a variety of basic beauty skills such as giving facials, manicure & set ups. This qualification will prepare learners for progression to Level 2 Beauty, Make-up and Nails. The combined course will give a variety of hair, beauty, nails and makeup treatments to enable you to progress and specialise in 1 of these areas in year 2.

Work Experience is an essential part of all full-time study programmes. Learners complete a minimum 35 hours in an industry-linked environment per academic year/qualification.

How will I be assessed?

Milestone assessment points will track learner progress in preparation for the end exams including written tests and assignments, spoken questioning, practical skills demonstrations and a mock assessment.

For Level 3 qualifications, ALL grade levels carry UCAS points to support progression to higher education.

For VRQ Diploma courses at Levels 2 and 3, assessment takes place within College  

Continuous on-course assessment involves:

  • Practical observations formative and summative
  • Externally set written/online modular tests
  • Spoken questioning.

All L2 and L3 practical will be graded as pass merit and distinction.

All L2 and L3 theory exams will be graded as Pass, Pass+ and Pass ++

What will this lead to?

Level 2 VRQ Diploma in Beauty Therapy is aimed at learners that are looking to start a career in the Beauty Therapy industry. Learners can progress into employment, onto an Apprenticeship, or further their studies by taking a Level 3 qualification in Beauty or Nail Technologies, or Level 2 Theatrical Make Up.

Level 2 VRQ Diploma in Beauty and hair combined is aimed at learners that are looking to start a career in the Beauty or hair and are undecided or want a bit of both. Learners can progress onto an Apprenticeship, or further their studies by taking a Level 2 technical beauty qualification in Beauty, nail, makeup or hair.

Level 3 Diploma in Body & Spa aims to provide learners with a range of specialist technical practical skills and knowledge, which will equip you to seek employment or higher education (HE) pathways within the Beauty & Spa Therapy industry.

Employment is found in: Nail Bars/Salons, Beauty Salons, Media, Cruise Ships/Hotels, Spas, Self employment, Product Retail or Manufacturing Companies.

  • Opportunities for freelance work or self-employment are unlimited for motivated individuals.

GCSE Grade 3 (C) in Maths or English. Below GCSE Grade 3 (C) in BIO,CHM,PHY subjects or not sat GCSE Sciences in the past.

GCSE Grade 2 or 3 in Maths and English.


Full Time Level 1 Course

2 GCSE's at grade 2 unless you want to study the courses listed below:

Electrical & Plumbing: Min GCSE grade 3 in maths or Functional Skills 1 in maths

Motor Vehicle: Min GCSE grade 2 in maths


Full Time Level 2 Course

4 GCSE grade 3 including English or maths or a level 1 in Functional Skills English or Maths unless you want to study the courses below:

Motor Vehicle : GCSE grade 3 in maths or Functional Skills Level 1 in maths & Level 1 in Motor Vehicle.

Min GCSE grade 4 or Functional Skills Level 2 in Maths and English Required for:

Accounting, Plumbing & Electrical

 

 Full time Level 3 Course

4 GCSEs at Grade 4-9 including English AND Maths (Functional Skills Level 2 English AND Maths will be accepted).

NOTE: If you want to study Applied Science you must have 4 and above in GCSE Biology, Chemistry & Physics.

 

Vocational Level 2 in the subject area you wish to study plus Grade 4-9 GCSE English or Maths (Functional Skills Level 2 English or Maths will be accepted).

*A Vocational Level 2 is required for the following courses:

All Construction Subjects

Hair & Beauty Subjects

Applied Science

T Level Foundation (Level 2)

4 GCSE Grade 3 including English and Math's (or Functional Skills Level 1 in English and Math's)

5 GCSEs at Grade 4-9 including English and Maths (Functional Skills Level 2 in English and Maths will be accepted).

*Health & Healthcare Science T Level requires GCSE Grade 4 in BIO, CHEM, PHY OR if double all 4's required.

Cost

If you are aged between 16 and 18 when you start your course and are taking a course leading to a qualification, the tuition and exam fees are free. However, there may be some additional costs for optional trips, recommended text books and professional start up kits. We have a bursary scheme to assist with these costs.

  • If you're aged 19 or over, you may be eligible for funding towards your course fees. It will depend on your personal circumstances and will be discussed at enrolment. You will be asked to bring documentation with you when you are invited to enrol.
  • If you are aged 19 and over and study Maths or English and do not already hold a C grade/4 or higher in the subject that you are studying, you will get the course for free.
