What will I study?

Full-time Courses

All new learners interested in Beauty will start on either the Level 2 VRQ Diploma in Beauty Therapy or the Level 2 Technical Certificate in Beauty Therapy, and will study theoretical aspects of the subject to apply to practical tasks. Learners will be correct on the correct study programme dependant on GCSE grades achieved.

Level 2 VRQ Diploma in Beauty Therapy

Entry requirement: three grade 3 GCSEs or above

The Level 3 Advanced  Diploma in Beauty and Spa Therapy covers a wide range of practical skills and knowledge required for working in this industry.

For learners who fall short of the Level 2 entry requirements, we offer  an introduction to Beauty Therapy through  a skills and employability pathway . This qualification is a support role within a commercial beauty type environment, and includes a variety of basic beauty skills such as giving facials, manicure & nail treatments and applying make-up. This qualification will prepare learners for progression to Level 2 Beauty, Make-up and Nails.

Work Experience is an essential part of all full-time study programmes. Learners complete a minimum 35 hours in an industry-linked environment per academic year/qualification.

How will I be assessed?

All Technical Qualifications are graded (Pass, Merit and Distinction and Distinction*) by an external end point assessment (EPA). This includes:

Milestone assessment points will track learner progress in preparation for the EPA, including written tests and assignments, spoken questioning, practical skills demonstrations and a mock assessment.

For Level 3 qualifications, ALL grade levels carry UCAS points to support progression to higher education.

For VRQ Diploma courses at Levels 2 and 3, assessment takes place both within College and on the work placement.

What will this lead to?

Level 2 VRQ Diploma in Beauty Therapy is aimed at learners that are looking to start a career in the Beauty Therapy industry. Learners can progress into employment, onto an Apprenticeship, or further their studies by taking a Level 3 qualification in Beauty & Spa or Nail Technologies, or Level 2 Theatrical Make Up.

Level 2 Technical Certificate in Beauty Therapy is aimed at learners that are looking to start a career in the Beauty Therapy industry. Learners can progress into employment, onto an Apprenticeship, or further their studies by taking a Level 3 qualification in Beauty & Spa or Nail Technologies.

Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Beauty & Spa Therapy aims to provide learners with a range of specialist technical practical skills and knowledge, which will equip you to seek employment or higher education (HE) pathways within the Beauty & Spa Therapy industry.

Employment is found in: Nail Bars/Salons, Beauty Salons, Media, Cruise Ships/Hotels, Spas, Product Retail or Manufacturing Companies.


What will this lead to (Apprenticeship)?

Progression: Junior Therapists can move into Advanced Beauty Therapy/Therapist roles, become Advanced Nail Technicians or specialise in Make Up to work in TV or Film.

Career options: Retail Department Stores, Spas, High Street Salons, Cruise Ships, or moving into Therapist or Freelance Junior Therapist roles. Starting salaries for these roles range from £10,000 to £14,000, with the opportunity to earn more as you gain experience.


Entry requirements

Entry Level Courses : 
Skills for Life & Work 
No formal qualifications are required for this course, although evidence of personal progression from previous education establishments would be beneficial.  
These courses are specifically designed for learners with a special educational need (SEND). 

Skills & Employability  
English & maths GCSE Grades G-U / 1 or English & maths Functional Skills Entry Level 3  

Full Time GCSE Re-sit Study Course
You will receive an offer of a place on the course subject to passing an English & Maths assessment. 

Full Time Level 1 Course 
English & Maths GCSE Grades E-G/1- 2 or English & Maths Functional Skills Entry Level 3. 

Full Time Level 2 Course 
Minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade D/3 including English and Maths or a vocational qualification Level 1, plus GCSE grade D/3 in both English and Maths. 
English & Maths Functional Skills Level 1 will be accepted as an alternative to GCSEs.  

Full time Level 3 Course
Minimum of 4 GCSEs at grades A-C/4-9 (including English and Maths) or a vocational qualification Level 2, plus GCSE grade C/4 in both English and Maths

T Level 
Minimum of 5 GCSE passes but English and Maths GCSE must be Grade 5 or above. 
T levels in Science and Healthcare Science will also require a minimum of a grade 5 in a GCSE Science subject.

Cost

Full Time

If you are aged between 16 and 18 when you start your course and are taking a course leading to a qualification, the tuition and exam fees are free. However, there may be some additional costs for optional trips, recommended text books and professional start up kits. We have a bursary scheme to assist with these costs.

Part Time

If you are aged between 16 and 18 when you start your course and are taking a course leading to a qualification, the tuition and exam fees are free. However, there may be some additional costs for optional trips, recommended text books and professional start up kits.
