We have a dedicated qualified careers team based in our Careers Hub based in Campus Central, who deliver careers information, advice and guidance to existing and prospective students. Our careers team is here to help students achieve their career goals and to make sure they are on the correct course.
The College has been awarded the Matrix Standard which is a National Government approved Quality Standard for Information Advice and Guidance. This is a unique quality standard covering the advice and support services which help individuals in their choice of career, learning, work and life goals.
Bernie Murray is our Careers Leader for Oldham college. Part of the Careers Leader role is to ensure Oldham college are compliant in embedding the 8 Gatsby benchmarks outlined in the government strategy for careers, so that all our students are provided with the maximum level of employer encounters, support with Higher Education applications and receive personal careers guidance throughout their journey with us.
We will support students to progress after college onto Apprenticeships, employment, Further Education and Higher Education. The careers programme offers one to one guidance, employability and CV workshops, mock interviews, UCAS application support and advice on how to write personal statements.
“Promoting technical and professional education and training opportunities to Oldham’s young people”
The team organise and arrange careers events in college, all designed to help students decide on their next steps. There are progression events to help students and parents decide on what the next steps will be for progression to the next level of course, apprenticeships/higher and degree apprenticeships/employment or Higher Education. We hold employer talks, alumni – past students who share their career experiences with our current learners. We also provide specialist sessions on higher education student finance, UCAS personal statements and employability.
