The Job Shop is an on-site facility allowing employers to highlight local job opportunities to Oldham College students.
This encompasses apprenticeships, work experience and paid employment vacancies – including part-time and seasonal work which learners can complete alongside their studies.
The Job Shop team works with local employers, recruitment agencies, the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and other initiatives to ensure that a high calibre of opportunities are offered to learners.
“The Job Shop’s aspiration is to be an employment solution for both students and employers,” says Marvin Smith, Employer Relationships and Business Development Manager.
“Employers working with the Job Shop will have a competitive advantage, tapping into enthusiastic young people eager to gain employment.
“For students, these employer links, live vacancies and our approachable team will enable them to gain confidence, employability skills and work experience.”
In March we held an employer breakfast event to mark the Job Shop’s official launch.
Across all sectors, local employers – including Oldham Council, Toyota and the NHS – joined us to learn more about the opportunities available to them and to network with like-minded individuals.
Ell and Saad, current apprentices at Oldham College, attended the event to share their experiences of applying for their positions through the Job Shop.
“The event was a huge success with employers thrilled at the opportunity to work with young people and find solutions to their organisation’s recruitment challenges,” said Marvin.
