Whether you want to be behind a camera or on stage or backstage, we can provide you with professional, up-to-date training to help you on your way.
Our facilities are second to none, with our very own fully equipped Grange Theatre plus three specialist Dance, Drama and rehearsal studios. Our Technical Theatre students work in our Theatre and our sound recording studios to give a broad and comprehensive training.

Work Experience
It is very important that you develop your experience in your industry and that you complete a work placement. We can support you with this and have a team dedicated to contacting employers. We invite employers and organisations to come in to offer you opportunities to complete projects and tasks. We also have industry master classes and guest speakers from your industry specialism who will broaden your understanding of the career routes you may choose to progress to. Our work experience also takes place during our productions, and touring shows, live projects and festivals. You will work in our commercial theatre and support professional and student performances and events.
You will be assessed through a range of practical performance projects in our professional theatre, staging and supporting for performances to a live audience in a real-life industry setting. You may also be involved in schools tour projects, where you will visit several local schools, perform your work and deliver high quality workshops to the school pupils.
You will also be assessed on your presentation of the practical work you have participated in. This may be presented in a format of your choice i.e. written report, verbal presentation, website, blog, journal, scrap book etc. and will detail aspects of the work including research, context, planning and production, reflection and evaluation.
All units are graded Pass or Fail, until you reach your Final Major Project, which will be graded 'Pass, Merit, or Distinction'.
Your work will firstly be assessed by your tutor, an external moderator from UAL will then confirm the grades.
After Level 3 you will be qualified to seek junior work in the theatre/live events industries. However, it is more than likely you will proceed to University to study a technical theatre/music/media degree, events/project management is also a direction students could take after this course. For direct entry level roles you may choose different aspects of lighting, sound and digital operations. Small scale touring companies, large production/live events organisations will also be likely destinations. Junior camera, sound recording, and editing roles (in media organisations) would also be within your scope to study at a higher level.
Students will develop confidence with valuable technical and creative skills that will serve them in other areas of theatre, on-line media and digital creative sector more widely

If you are aged between 16 and 18 when you start your course and are taking a course leading to a qualification, the tuition and exam fees are free. However, there may be some additional costs for optional trips, recommended text books and professional start up kits. We have a bursary scheme to assist with these costs.
