What will I study?

Intro to a Vocational and Pathway to Vocational: Level 1

The two Pathway Programmes are specifically designed to enable learners to progress to mainstream programmes, Apprenticeships, Traineeships or other employment with training. The provision is for vocationally undecided young people, or for those who do not yet meet the entry requirements for Level 1 courses in other Faculty areas. 

Intro to courses: You will work towards a City & Guilds Level 1 Award in Employability, and you will access taster sessions in other vocational faculties. The specific introductory pathways to choose from are: Work, ICT, Construction, Hair and Beauty or Health and Social Care.

Pathway to Vocational Level 1: you will progress to the Level 1 Certificate in Employability and select a specialism for 4 hours' tuition in the vocational Faculty of your choice. The vocational areas you can choose from are: Sport; Construction; Motor Vehicle; Health & Social Care; Business ; Hair; Art; ICT and Retail.

Full level 1 courses:  Within the faculty you can work towards full level 1 qualifications in

Hair and Barbering,

Beauty 

Business

All students will work towards GCSE or Functional Skills qualifications in maths and English. Your personal tutor will set and review individual targets to ensure you develop the skills that will enable you to succeed and progress on to higher level courses, Apprenticeships or employment. 

Course Content:

  • Pastoral/1-1 target setting   

  • Level 1 Award/Certificate in Employability

  • English GCSE or Functional Skills

  • Maths GCSE or Functional Skills

  • Life & Social Skills

  • Confidence-building, team-work and problem-solving

  • Enrichment & Enterprise projects.

  • Work experience and/or experience of work.

How will I be assessed?

Some class sizes will be small and much of your learning will take place through practical activities.

You will be taught by a highly qualified team of tutors, dedicated to ensuring your learning experience is fun, challenging and meaningful. You may be eligible for specialist additional learning support, but we will always strive to support your individual needs. You will have targets set specifically for your needs and end goals, which will be monitored and reviewed regularly with your Personal Tutor, to ensure your learning journey stays on track.

We have strong links with professionals, and your family are invited to be involved in all aspects of your education and progress.

Methods of assessment are varied to meet your needs and abilities and will include written and verbal assessments, observation and witness statements, photographic and video evidence.

GCSE maths and English are externally set exams.

What will this lead to?

  • Levels 1 and 2 programmes in Vocational Faculties
  • Traineeships or Apprenticeships
  • Employment
  • Supported Internship.

Entry Level Courses:


Skills for Life & Work/Preparing for Adulthood

These courses are specifically designed for learners with a Special Educational Need (SEND).

 

Entry Level: Skills & Employability

Full Time ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages)


No formal qualifications are required for this course.


Full Time GCSE Re-sit Study Course

 GCSE Grade 2 or 3 in Maths and English and / or Sciences.


Full Time Level 1 Course

 No formal qualifications are required for this course.


Full Time Level 2 Course

4 GCSEs at grade 3 or Vocational Level 1 in relevant subject area.

*GCSE Grade 4 or above in Maths is required for the courses below:

Accounting

Electrical

Plumbing

Full time Level 3 Course

5 GCSEs at Grade 4-9 including English or Maths (Functional Skills Level 2 English or Maths will be accepted).

OR

Vocational Level 2 plus Grade 4-9 GCSE English or Maths (Functional Skills Level 2 English or Maths will be accepted).

*A Vocational Level 2 is required for the following courses:

Accounting

All Construction Subjects

Hair & Beauty Subjects

Applied Science


T Levels

 

5 GCSEs at Grade 4-9 including English and Maths (Functional Skills Level 2 in English and Maths will be accepted).

* Health T Levels require GCSE Grade 4 in Science.

Cost

If you are aged between 16 and 18 when you start your course and are taking a course leading to a qualification, the tuition and exam fees are free. However, there may be some additional costs for optional trips, recommended text books and professional start up kits. We have a bursary scheme to assist with these costs.

  • If you're aged 19 or over, you may be eligible for funding towards your course fees. It will depend on your personal circumstances and will be discussed at enrolment. You will be asked to bring documentation with you when you are invited to enrol.
  • If you are aged 19 and over and study Maths or English and do not already hold a C grade/4 or higher in the subject that you are studying, you will get the course for free.
