Faculty of Construction
Full Time City & Guilds Diploma Levels 1 and 2.
Courses run over 3/4 days per week and may include Maths and English, dependant on previous qualifications.
The units for each course -
The course is split between Practical and Theory with the practical being delivered in our specialist in house facilities. You will learn the basics and progress to more challenging tasks and undertake some work experience to introduce you to the world of work
We offer the Intermediate Level 2 and Advanced Apprenticeship Level 3 in Painting & Decorating delivered in house in our specialist facilities at Oldham College and in the workplace by highly qualified dedicated vocational staff. The qualification is a mix of practical hands on work, interactive theory classroom and site activities. Learners will study basic hand skills to be able to experience surface preparation and various techniques using both paint and specialist paper applications, they will also be taught H&S.
On the Advanced Apprenticeship you will also will have the opportunity to use airless sprayers, learn techniques towards graining and marbling and use complex papers.
Entry to the Level 2 qualification is normally Grade E/Level 3 in English and Maths and you will study to level 2 Functional Skills in both alongside your qualification depending on your GCSEs.
You will be taught by specialists in our up to date training facilities and supported and observed in the workplace by qualified assessors with a wealth of expertise in the industry.
You will attend college 1 day per week to learn the knowledge required to do your job and develop your skills. There are a number of exams at both Level 2 and Level 3.
The NVQ Diploma is achieved through the creation of a site diary including workshop evidence and supported by on-site assessments and a portfolio of evidence.
Upon successful completion of Level 1, you can then progress to Level 2
During the Level 2 you will be encouraged to update your CV and start to think about contacting employers to move into an apprenticeship or employment.
Upon successful completion of the Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship you can progress to the Advanced Apprenticeship.
Upon successful completion of the Advanced Apprenticeship in you can progress to an HNC Level 4 or a HND Level 5 qualification.
Painting and decorating has a wide range of opportunities that apprentices can be involved with in a structured career path, such as new builds, refurbishments and designer work. Apprentices could be involved in small domestic projects to major projects.
Entry Level Programme: Skills for Life & Work
No formal qualifications are required for this course, although evidence of personal progression from previous education establishments would be beneficial.
These courses are specifically designed for learners with a special educational need (SEND).

English & maths GCSE Grades G-U / 1 or English & maths Functional Skills Entry Level 3
GCSE Re-sit Study Programme
You will receive an offer of a place on the course subject to passing an English & maths assessment.
Vocational Level 1 Programme
English & maths GCSE Grades E-G/1- 2 or English & maths Functional Skills Entry Level 3.
Vocational Level 2 Programme
Minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade D/3 including maths and English or a vocational qualification Level 1, plus GCSE grade D/3 in both maths and English. English & maths Functional Skills Level 1 will be accepted as an alternative to GCSEs.
Vocational Level 3 Programme
Minimum of 4 GCSEs at grades A-C/4-9 (including maths and English) or a vocational qualification Level 2, plus GCSE grade C/4 in both maths and English
Minimum of 5 GCSE passes but Maths and English GCSE must be Grade 5 or above.
T levels in Science and Healthcare Science will also require a minimum of a grade 5 in a GCSE Science subject.

If you are aged between 16 and 18 when you start your course and are taking a course leading to a qualification, the tuition and exam fees are free. However, there may be some additional costs for optional trips, recommended text books and professional start up kits. We have a bursary scheme to assist with these costs.
