What will I study?

We offer a T Level (level 3) in Science with a specialism in Laboratory Science. This is a valuable career which has many career opportunities working in research, technician roles and manufacturing.

If you want to join the valuable work that is done within this sector then this this is your opportunity to enrol on this new generation of qualifications that offer an attractive technical alternative to studying three different A Levels.

This course has been designed with employers to provide you with the knowledge and skills needed to work within this field. It blends the development of technical knowledge with industry work placement to provide you with the skills and experience you need to start your healthcare science career.

This is a great opportunity for you to work alongside professionals, become part of the team and develops your skills as you put theory into practice.

To enrol on this course you must have a minimum of five GCSEs , 3 of which must be English, maths and science at a minimum of grade 5.

How will I be assessed?

Core modules: there will be two externally set exams at the end of the first year and an employer set project; this is a controlled assessment completed within College and is fully linked to your industry work placement experience.

Specialist modules: there will be three externally set assessments carried out in year two - two exams and one assignment based.

What will this lead to?

After successfully completing this course you will be able to progress onto an undergraduate degree in science related subjects. Alternatively, you may choose to progress to a higher level Apprenticeship or go into employment within a laboratory setting.

*GCSE Grade 4 or above in Maths is required for the courses below:

Full time Level 3 Course

5 GCSEs at Grade 4-9 including English or Maths (Functional Skills Level 2 English or Maths will be accepted).

OR

Vocational Level 2 plus Grade 4-9 GCSE English or Maths (Functional Skills Level 2 English or Maths will be accepted).

*A Vocational Level 2 is required for the following courses:

5 GCSEs at Grade 4-9 including English and Maths (Functional Skills Level 2 in English and Maths will be accepted).

Cost

If you are aged between 16 and 18 when you start your course and are taking a course leading to a qualification, the tuition and exam fees are free. However, there may be some additional costs for optional trips, recommended text books and professional start up kits. We have a bursary scheme to assist with these costs.

  • If you're aged 19 or over, you may be eligible for funding towards your course fees. It will depend on your personal circumstances and will be discussed at enrolment. You will be asked to bring documentation with you when you are invited to enrol.
  • If you are aged 19 and over and study Maths or English and do not already hold a C grade/4 or higher in the subject that you are studying, you will get the course for free.
