The qualification is designed to guide you through an introduction to the practical and theoretical aspects of fitness in sport. The foundation level of knowledge and skills will enable you to develop an understanding of the safe, ethical and effective management and coaching of participants of all ages. The qualification will prepare aspiring coaches for employment in paid or voluntary roles that will enable you to assist other more qualified coaches in delivering fitness sessions to participants of all ages.
Fitness Instruction - Level 2 Full Time (1 year course)
Fitness Instruction will give you the opportunity to become a fully qualified Fitness Instructor. You will learn how the body works, health and safety in a fitness environment, session planning and practical delivery. The following units will be delivered:
Personal training - Level 3 Part Time (evening class)
Personal Training will give you the opportunity to be a fully qualified Personal Trainer. Throughout this course you will study Anatomy and Physiology, Performance and Nutrition modules. These will teach you how the body works and how to practically apply this to performance. Units such as:
This will give you the knowledge to train clients on a self employed basis in a gym, and progress onto higher qualifications.
Level 3 - Advanced Apprenticeship in Supporting Teaching in Physical Education & School Sport
This Apprenticeship is ideal for anyone wanting to work with children while delivering school sport, equipping you with the skills to plan, deliver and assess out of school activities, lunchtime and playtime activities and curriculum physical activity. You will also gain an understanding of the Ofsted early years setting.
As well as learning to deliver physical activities, as an apprentice you will learn to safeguard the wellbeing of children and young people in safe environments as well as gaining invaluable skills in communicating and forming professional relationships with children, young people and adults. An important part of the role is organising sports events and competitions, when you will work as part of a team or on your own.
Fitness Coaching - Level 1
Personal training & Fitness Instruction.
Entry Level Programme: Skills for Life & Work
No formal qualifications are required for this course, although evidence of personal progression from previous education establishments would be beneficial.
These courses are specifically designed for learners with a special educational need (SEND).
Entry Level Programme: Skills & Employability
English & maths GCSE Grades G-U / 1 or English & maths Functional Skills Entry Level 3
GCSE Re-sit Study Programme
You will receive an offer of a place on the course subject to passing an English & maths assessment.
Vocational Level 1 Programme
English & maths GCSE Grades E-G/1- 2 or English & maths Functional Skills Entry Level 3.
Vocational Level 2 Programme
Minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade D/3 including maths and English or a vocational qualification Level 1, plus GCSE grade D/3 in both maths and English. English & maths Functional Skills Level 1 will be accepted as an alternative to GCSEs.
Vocational Level 3 Programme
Minimum of 4 GCSEs at grades A-C/4-9 (including maths and English) or a vocational qualification Level 2, plus GCSE grade C/4 in both maths and English

If you are aged between 16 and 18 when you start your course and are taking a course leading to a qualification, the tuition and exam fees are free. However, there may be some additional costs for optional trips, recommended text books and professional start up kits. We have a bursary scheme to assist with these costs.
