On Thursday 15th January, learners and staff celebrated the first anniversary of OC Radio with a special live broadcast.
The show contained a mixture of music, chat and listening back to clips from the launch day last year.
“We felt it important to acknowledge the milestone of the radio station being officially on air for a year, and recruiting learners for a special live show seemed like the perfect way to celebrate,” said Jay McCreary, Programme Tutor – Media Production.
Learners took on a variety of roles to bring the show to life, including hosting, appearing as guests and working behind the scenes.
“I found working in a live environment exciting,” said learner Josh, who appeared as a guest with classmates Angel and Tabassum to discuss topics including university and their favourite lessons in college. “I am now very interested in future radio or broadcasting opportunities & hope to take it further.”
Angel added: “I enjoyed myself, and I intend to put myself forward for future opportunities with OC Radio.”
Elizabeth worked as the vision mixer and director for the video recording of the show. She says: “Talking through the mic to my camera operators, and making sure the production was as perfect as it could be, was challenging – but once I did it, I was very proud of myself.
“It was an amazing, unique experience, which has definitely sparked my interest in radio and broadcasting.”
“Experiences like this are what OC Radio was created for: discussing talking points, building confidence and preparing learners with valuable skills that are relevant to their subject specialism industry,” says Jay.
