What will I study?

The T Level is meant to prepare students for skilled employment in marketing, or progression to higher-level study, apprenticeships or university courses — especially in marketing, digital marketing, business, advertising/PR and similar career pathways. The T Level in Marketing is a Level 3two-year qualification designed to combine academic/technical study (classroom learning) with substantial practical workplace experience (industry placement).

Your studies during the T Level Marketing programme are broadly split into:

Core Marketing knowledge and fundamentals of content related to the sector. You’ll learn the foundational theories and concepts that underpin marketing and business. Key topics include:

The purpose and role of marketing within organisations — how marketing adds value, supports organisational aims (profit and/or non-profit), and what happens if marketing activity is absent.

Understanding customers and consumers: the differences between them; what influences their behaviour; and how marketers can influence decisions.

Market types and routes to market: Business-to-Business (B2B), Business-to-Consumer (B2C), other channels; role of suppliers and procurement in marketing.

Marketing mix and promotional mix (“4 Ps” or “7 Ps + extended mix” depending on the framework): how product, price, place, promotion (plus often people, process, physical evidence) combine to deliver marketing effectively.

Customer personas, segmentation and targeting: how marketers define target audiences (personas), understand different consumer types and tailor campaigns accordingly.

Because marketing is so embedded into business operations, the course also includes broader business-environment and professional issues.

Examples:

Business environment: types of organisations; how businesses operate; organisational aims (profit vs non-profit) and structure.

Sales and procurement — understanding procurement processes, supply chains, supplier relationships, procurement’s role in B2B/B2C contexts.

Regulatory, legal, ethical issues: marketing and sales legislation, regulation, ethics, business ethics and sustainability — understanding responsible marketing and compliance.

Communication, project management, business communication skills: working with stakeholders, project planning, managing marketing projects, teamwork, professional communication.

Impact of technology (digital marketing, e-commerce, data analytics, social media, use of digital tools) on marketing — reflecting modern marketing’s reliance on digital and data-driven approaches.

What Studying Marketing T Level Will Feel Like

You will spend most of your time learning core marketing/business theory (market research, customer behaviour, marketing mix, business environment, procurement, ethics, regulations) plus practical skills like communication, project management, digital marketing, data/analytics insight.

You will also work on a specialism in marketing assistance, giving you hands-on, relevant industry skills — e.g. planning campaigns, developing marketing strategies, analysing marketing results, engaging customers.

You’ll gain real world experience through a structured industry placement (315 hours), bridging classroom learning with real business work.

Assessment will be a mixture of formal exams, projects and practical assessments — meaning you are evaluated on both theory and ability to apply your knowledge.

On completion you’ll be equipped to enter the world of marketing or use the qualification as a springboard into higher education, apprenticeships or more advanced marketing roles.

How will I be assessed?

  • Assessment methods include:

    • Two externally set papers (exams) on the core component.

    • An employer-set project (controlled assessment) as part of the core component.

    • An occupational specialism assessment (often a synoptic project or assignment) relating to the Marketing Assistant specialism.

What will this lead to?

After completing the Marketing T Level you will have several options:

  • Enter the workforce in marketing-related roles: e.g. Marketing Assistant, Digital Marketer, Advertising/Media Executive, E-commerce support, Events, Customer Relations, PR, etc.

  • Pursue further training or higher education: including degree courses (e.g. Business and Marketing, Digital Marketing, Communications, Advertising & Marketing) or higher-level/apprenticeship routes.

  • Use the course as a stepping stone to management, strategic marketing, or more specialised marketing / business roles — once additional experience or study is added.
