Oldham College’s innovative use of assistive technology has been celebrated on a national scale!

Liz Wilcox, Programme Tutor – Dyslexia, travelled to London to present at the Association of Colleges (AoC) SEND Conference on Tuesday 2nd December with the Thomas Pocklington Trust (TPT).

At the conference, Liz and TPT presented ‘Inclusive Futures – Leading Change for Accessible FE’. Their presentation shared our journey with assistive technology, including our involvement in TPT’s Access and Assistance for All campaign, and explained how this has transformed the college experience for our learners.

Liz said: “It was an invigorating, heartening experience to come together and share good practice with others. It brings home how impactful this help is for our learners.”

Following the conference, Liz visited the Houses of Parliament to meet with Lord Addington, Member of the House of Lords and President of the British Dyslexic Association.

Lord Addington was interested to hear Liz’s experiences of working with assistive technology and how it has been embedded at Oldham College.

He was pleased to hear how the assistive technology isn’t limited to just those with a diagnosis, and to learn more about how our support extends to those with dyscalculia.

Well done to all our staff who work with assistive technology, for the work they do to break down barriers to learning.
