Oldham College has been named the lead skills and workforce partner for the new Oldham Trading Platform, a UK-first online hub that helps businesses connect, trade and grow locally. Through the platform, employers can access apprenticeships, training and higher-level skills support to build the workforce they need.
Launched at the Hive hub in Spindles Shopping Centre and run by Upturn, a local Social Enterprise founded in 2004, the platform brings together organisations of all sizes. It encourages larger companies to source goods and services locally, while giving smaller firms greater visibility.
The College’s role is to ensure that skills, training and workforce development sit at the heart of this business community. Employers who join can access direct support with apprenticeships, T Level industry placements, staff training, higher-level qualifications and innovation projects, helping them attract new talent, upskill teams and futureproof their operations.
Lisa Liddy, Assistant Principal- Apprenticeship and Skills said: “The Oldham Trading Platform is about more than trade; it is about putting skills and workforce development at the centre of Oldham’s growth. As the borough’s main provider of technical education, we can give employers direct access to apprenticeships, training and innovation. It is a fantastic opportunity to connect local businesses with the talent and support they need to succeed.”
