Oldham College has welcomed Mark Mayall as its newest Business Advisor, bringing with him over 30 years of commercial experience and a lifelong connection to the town.
Born and raised in Oldham, Mark’s career spans publishing, sales and recruitment. He has launched a lifestyle magazine, imported cookbooks from Australia, worked in professional and trade recruitment for the Construction industry and even spent time with the publisher of Beano and Dandy.
That breadth of experience now benefits local employers as Mark supports businesses in finding the right apprentices and building the skills they need for the future.
“I wanted to use my experience to do something positive for Oldham,” said Mark. “Helping young people gain work experience and the qualifications to go with it is the best way I can support the town’s future.”
Supporting employers and partners
Mark is the first point of contact for apprenticeships in Accountancy and Finance, Business, Legal, and IT/Digital. His role is to make the process clear and straightforward for employers while ensuring every placement works for both the learner and the business.
Here’s how he can help:
This practical, hands-on approach makes a real difference. When a learner’s placement wasn’t working out, Mark quickly found her a new employer in the same sector who could provide stronger support. She is now thriving and adding value to her team.
Why it matters for employers
Working with Oldham College means more than filling a vacancy. It’s about growing new talent and upskilling your workforce with clear support throughout.
We deliver a wide range of IT and Digital apprenticeships and from January we will also be introducing IT Foundation Apprenticeships, designed to help entry-level staff begin their digital skills journey.
