Scholarship Scheme

The Untapped Potential Scholarship supports eligible Oldham College students progressing to University Campus Oldham (UCO).

If you meet the eligibility criteria, you could receive a scholarship worth £1,000 to help with the cost of studying at UCO.

Untapped Potential Scholarship

Supporting your progression to higher education

The scholarship aims to remove some of the financial barriers that can prevent students from progressing to higher education.

It helps eligible Oldham College students access and successfully complete a higher education qualification while studying close to home.

Successful applicants will receive £1,000 during their first year of study to help with costs such as travel, study resources and equipment.

The scholarship is paid in three instalments:

October: £300
February: £300
June: £400*

Eligibility and how to apply

To apply, you must:

Be a current Level 3 student at Oldham College.
Be aged between 18 and 21 when you start your UCO course.
Be able to demonstrate achievement on an appropriate Level 3 course and explain the personal or educational barriers you have overcome.
Have a household income of £25,000 or less.**
Complete the Untapped Potential Scholarship application form, outlining the barriers you have overcome and why you wish to progress to higher education
Email the completed form to info@uco.oldham.ac.uk.

How applications are assessed

Applications are assessed using the information provided in your scholarship application form.

The scholarship is available to new first-year students enrolled on an undergraduate programme, including an HNC, Foundation Degree, Foundation Year or Honours Degree.

The scholarship is not available to returning students, postgraduate students, teacher education students or students enrolled on professional diploma programmes.

Terms and conditions

* Scholarship instalments will be paid while you remain enrolled and actively engaged on your course. Active engagement means submitting assessed work and maintaining an attendance rate of at least 75%.

** Evidence of household income will be taken from your Student Finance England application.
