Students broker new connections at insurance conference

Oldham College learners made net gains at a special event hosted by the British Insurance Brokers Association (BIBA).

A group of Digital students attended the Young Broker Day at BIBA’s recent annual conference accompanied by Careers Team staff and their tutor, Soyful Islam.

This event at Manchester Central offered new guidance and support to brokers in the early stages of their career, including stories from insurance legends, celebrity speakers and personal development sessions as part of learners’ CPD.

Boo Bradley, Business Development Adviser, said Young Broker Day had left learners feeling “better informed, focused and inspired about their future pathways”.

She added: “Several thanked us for taking them and want to return next year. They said they felt motivated, inspired and excited about their future with some wanting to become young entrepreneurs.

“They really enjoyed talking to staff in the Exhibition Hall and soon realised that a career in insurance isn’t just about finance: there are other careers within the sector, such as FinTech, that are suited to a digital pathway.

“This event was a great way to raise awareness of the wide breadth of insurance-sector jobs – and to raise aspirations.”
