Razor-sharp Kevin is national winner

An Oldham College learner has won the Barbering Level 3 competition at the Concept Hair Learner of the Year 2024 finals.

Kevin Kusmierek was one of six students who made it to last weeks final, which also included Kaif Fiaz, another of our outstanding learners.

Both had been selected from photographic entries submitted across the UK and each was asked to produce a street-wise commercial haircut on the day at Telford College.

Our two finalists were cheered on by Wendy Fletcher, Interim Head of Faculty, Retail & Commercial, and Tiffany Park, Programme Tutor, Barbering – and Kevin was stunned to emerge as the winner.

“To have won feels unreal, it’s unbelievable,” he said.

“This has been an amazing experience and to come first is just fantastic. Hard work pays off!”

Wendy Fletcher said: “This is a fantastic achievement for both Kevin and Kaif – they’ve been on a fantastic journey and embraced every opportunity, rising to challenges with enthusiasm for the craft and preparing themselves fully for the world of work.”

Tiffany Park added: “I’m absolutely delighted with the results. The passion and responsiveness to feedback is a real credit to their success, which is well deserved. They have worked so hard, I am incredibly proud of them.”

This competition showcases the UK’s most promising Hairdressing and Barbering students and is run by Concept Hair Magazine. Winners received an array of prizes from sponsors including Wahl, Diva, L’Oréal and Denman.

CONGRATULATIONS to Kevin and Kaif for showing – once again – that our learners are a cut above the rest!
