Oldham College partnership helps local school find the right apprentice 

A local school has found its next apprentice after working with us to find the right person for the role. 

The Chadderton Preparatory School was looking for a Teaching Assistant Apprentice when Andrea Kearns, Recruitment Resourcer at Oldham College, met school leaver Miya Royales at the Oldham Jobs Fair. 

Miya had recently completed her GCSEs and was exploring apprenticeship options. She was initially interested in Early Years, but after speaking to her about her predicted grades and previous work experience, Andrea felt a Teaching Assistant role could be a good fit. 

Andrea put Miya forward for the vacancy and she was invited to interview. The school was impressed and offered her the apprenticeship later that day, describing her as an ideal fit for the role. 

Miya will start at The Chadderton Preparatory School in September and complete her Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship with us. 

Andrea said: “I love supporting young people into apprenticeships, especially when it all comes together and you see them believe in themselves and grow in confidence. 

“It’s an amazing feeling when you interview a young person, build a rapport with them and then see them secure a role. It makes the job so rewarding.” 

We work with employers across the borough to understand their recruitment needs and help them find suitable apprentices. 

Our Apprenticeships team supports employers throughout the process, from choosing the right apprenticeship for a role and advertising vacancies to identifying suitable applicants. 

Andrea added: “It’s important for us to support young people and connect them with local employers so we can help build the next generation. 

“We have excellent relationships with local employers and we want to keep building on these to create even more apprenticeship opportunities.” 

The success comes as we continue to work with Oldham Council on the 100 Apprenticeships in 100 Days campaign, encouraging employers across the borough to create new apprenticeships. 

The campaign aims to secure 100 apprenticeships in 100 days, helping more people start their careers while supporting local employers with recruitment.
