We’ve officially opened our new Futures Hub, bringing careers guidance, apprenticeships, employment and higher education support together in one dedicated space.
The launch welcomed local employers, community partners, governors, staff and students to celebrate the opening and its importance for our college and wider community.
Our Principal and Chief Executive, Simon Jordan, and FE Student Governor, Yousra Benmessaoud, officially opened the Hub with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Guests also heard from BBC political reporter and former Oldham College student Kevin Fitzpatrick, alongside Matthew Powell from Loudspeaker, an organisation that helps young people develop confidence and communication skills.
The Futures Hub provides our students with access to one-to-one careers guidance, apprenticeship and employment opportunities, CV and interview preparation, university application advice and connections with local employers.
Simon Jordan, Principal and Chief Executive of Oldham College, said: “Our role goes beyond helping students achieve qualifications. We have a responsibility to raise aspirations, widen access to opportunities and prepare people for the world of work.
“The Futures Hub is an important part of that commitment, bringing education and employers closer together so students can make informed choices about their futures.
“By strengthening these connections, we’re not only supporting our students to succeed, but helping to build the skilled workforce and stronger local economy Oldham needs.”
Yousra, who joined Simon to officially open the Hub, moved to England from Morocco at the age of 16 and began studying English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) at Oldham College.
She has since progressed to the Surveying and Design for Construction and the Built Environment T Level and become our FE Student Governor.
Reflecting on her own experience, Yousra said: “Sometimes, students don’t know what is possible until someone opens the door and shows them. Having access to careers advice, employers and new opportunities can help students discover paths they may never have considered before.
“One small conversation, one opportunity or someone taking the time to encourage you can make a real difference to a student’s confidence and future.”
The evening also showcased the talents of our students, who provided live music and served refreshments to guests.
The Futures Hub is open to all students, offering support with careers, apprenticeships, employment and higher education. Students can drop in or speak to their tutor to arrange a careers guidance appointment.
