Oldham businesses offered up to £3,000 to hire young people

We are encouraging local businesses to take advantage of new government funding of up to £3,000, which aims to support organisations looking to employ young people. 

The funding is part of the government’s Youth Guarantee, an £820m programme designed to create new training and employment opportunities and help more young people move into work.

The Youth Guarantee is being rolled out this year, with a range of funding and support for employers being introduced in phases.

For businesses, this will include financial incentives to help reduce the cost of recruitment, alongside additional support for hiring apprentices and accessing new talent.

The programme will also offer wider support, including work experience opportunities, sector-based training and help through local Youth Hubs, which will connect employers with young people and provide ongoing support to ensure placements are successful.

A Jobs Guarantee is also expected to roll out this year, offering fully funded roles for young people who have struggled to find work.

We are working with employers across Oldham to help them prepare for these changes, understand what support is available and access the funding as it becomes available.

“It’s also a chance to shape the skills needed in the local economy and build a stronger workforce for the future.”

“For businesses, this is about reducing recruitment pressures and investing in future talent. With financial support available, employers can access motivated young people, develop sector-specific skills from the outset and strengthen their workforce for the long term.

“We’re here to help businesses understand what’s changing, identify where the opportunities are and make the most of the support available to benefit their organisation.”
