Level 1 - Introduction to Health, Social Care and Children & Young People's Settings (Full-time) 

This one-year course is a blended study programme that covers Health, Social Care, Early Years and Childcare. It gives a clear introduction to all areas and allows learners to get an insight in to the differing sectors, enabling you to gain an underpinning knowledge of the sector and decide which sector your would like to focus on when you progress to Level 2. Topics include:

• Services and Provisions in Health, Social Care, Early Years and Childcare 
• Principles and Values 
• Safeguarding 
• Communication 
• Awareness of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion 
• Health and Safety 
• Person Centred Practice.

 Level 2 Health and Social Care (Full-time)

This one-year course is designed to develop your knowledge, and the skills required to work within this diverse sector as one of our future key workers. This theoretical and practical course will give you a broader and more focused insight into the health and social care sector. You will cover 7 units over the academic year, with topics including:

• Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Rights in Health and Social Care 
• Human Growth and Development 
• Safeguarding in Health and Social Care 
• Communication in Health and Social Care 
• Working in Health and Social Care 

Plus 2 further topics that are relevant to the sector. 

As part of the course you will attend a work placement. This will be in the format of block weeks later in the academic year, where you'll gain first-hand experience of what is expected of health and social care workers. This placement will allow you to participate in caring for diverse client groups.

Level 3 Social Care (Full-time) 

This two-year course has been specifically designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills that will enable you to work in social care. You will develop a detailed understanding of social care settings, expected values and behaviours when working in a care role and gain valuable work experience in a social care setting. As part of the course, you will attend work placement one day per week or as a block placement. The course is 100% coursework and is internally assessed, graded at either Pass, Merit or Distinction. The course is recognised by universities and carries UCAS points for entry on to course aligned to caring professions and the social care sector (excluding the Health Sector). Level 1: you will be assessed on your knowledge and skills through internally set assignments. You will complete this independently. Assignments will be in different formats to include written coursework, role plays, presentations, podcasts and other alternative assessment methods. These are marked by your course tutors.  

Level 2: you will be assessed on your knowledge and skills through internally set assignments. You will complete this independently. Assignments will be in different formats to include written coursework, role plays, presentations, podcasts and other alternative assessment methods. These are marked by your course tutors.  

Level 3: you will be assessed on your knowledge and skills through internally set assignments. You will complete this independently. Assignments will be in different formats to include written coursework, role plays, presentations, podcasts and other alternative assessment methods. These are marked by your course tutors.  

Level 1: On completion of the qualification you will have an introductory knowledge of the variety of sectors related to Health, Social Care, Early Years and Childcare. You can then progress onto a Level 2 qualification related to a specific sector of your choice that is aligned with your prospective future career. 

Level 2: With the knowledge and qualification earned on this course, you will have everything you need to advance onto the Level 3 Technical Healthcare qualification - or one of our new T Levels, taking your skills even further. For students who wish to enter into employment, jobs include home carer, healthcare assistant, support worker, personal assistant and occupational therapist technician.

Level 3: On completion of the Level 3 qualification you will have a huge range of options available to you, to apply your knowledge, skills and abilities to a variety of university courses. This includes Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Youth Work, Sociology and Psychology, plus many other careers. 

You may wish to continue your studies in your local area. University Campus Oldham offers a foundation degree course in Health and Social Care, BSc (Hons) Health and Community Studies and BSc (Hons) Psychology.

For learners wishing to enter into employment, there are a vast array of roles available to you, including support worker, domiciliary care, youth service worker, and mental health/learning disability support worker.
