Oldham College offers 1 year personalised courses for young people with Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND). Our entry level SEND ME courses are both focused on the key outcomes around employment, independent living, community inclusion and wellbeing. 

These programmes will be very practical and based in our specialist teaching rooms or in real life settings out in the local community.

Teaching will be ‘tailor made’ to meet your individual needs and interests, and you will have the opportunity to access fully supported work experience within the College or a placement with one of our established providers in the community.

Level of ability:

Working below Entry level within all subjects.

Learners that benefit from a sensory based curriculum, due to level of ability and behavioural needs.

The ‘SEND me to Learn’ Curriculum consists of the following aspects:

• Communication and Language
• Understanding the World
• Personal, Social and Emotional Development
• Sensory Responses
• Physical Development

Level of ability:

Generally working below Entry level.

Learners that benefit from a more practical based curriculum, that includes sensory, communication and social aspects.

SEND me to Grow

The ‘SEND Independence’ Curriculum consists of the following aspects:

• Humanities (Human Society, Culture, Beliefs, Languages etc.)
• Literacy (Communication, Sign language, Makaton, etc.)
• Numeracy (Numbers, Size etc.)
• Health & Wellbeing (Personal Care, Personal Awareness, Behaviour, Physical and Mental Health, Diet etc)
• Expressive Arts (Art, Music, Sport, Drama, Dance, Exercise etc.)
• Science & Technology- (Assistive Technology, AI, Sustainability etc)

Level of ability:

Generally working between Pre- Entry and Entry level 2.

Learners that are looking to develop their social skills and independence, while also improving their Mathematics and English skills. 

The ‘SEND me to Work’ Curriculum consists of the following aspects:

• Humanities (Human Society, Culture, Beliefs, Languages etc.)
• Literacy (Communication, Sign language, Makaton, etc.)
• Numeracy (Numbers, Size etc.)
• Health & Wellbeing (Personal Care, Personal Awareness, Behaviour, Physical and Mental Health, Diet etc)
• Expressive Arts (Art, Music, Drama, Sport, Dance, Exercise etc.)
• Science & Technology- (Assistive Technology, AI, Sustainability etc)

Level of ability:

Generally working between Entry level and Level 1. Learners will develop transferable employability skills needed for employment such as teamwork, communication and problem-solving. 

The ‘SEND Independence' Curriculum consists of the following aspects:

• Humanities (Human Society, Culture, Beliefs, Languages etc.)
• Literacy (Communication, Sign language, Makaton, etc.)
• Numeracy (Numbers, Size etc.)
• Health & Wellbeing (Personal Care, Personal Awareness, Behaviour, Physical and Mental Health, Diet etc)
• Expressive Arts (Art, Music, Drama, Dance, Sport, Exercise etc.)
• Science & Technology- (Assistive Technology, AI, Sustainability etc)

Level of ability:

Generally working between Entry level and Level 1. Learners will gain a better understanding of the potential opportunities available within their local community. 

You will work in small groups with highly qualified and experienced tutors and Support Officers, dedicated to ensuring that your learning experience is fun, challenging and meaningful. You will receive support from your own Personal Tutor, who will closely monitor your progress to ensure that your learning journey stays on track. We have strong links with family and professionals, who will be involved in all aspects of your development.

The programme sets personalised goals based on each student’s EHCP. We use baseline assessments to find out where students are starting from, and we will regularly check their progress towards these goals.
