Course Details

What Will I Study?

Learners on the Level 2 NVQ Nail Treatments course will study theoretical aspects of the subject and apply these aspects to practical tasks.

Core topics include:

  • Anatomy and physiology for hands and feet

  • Health and safety

  • Client care

  • Salon reception duties

  • Promoting products and services

  • Nail enhancements (clear)

  • Manicure services

  • Pedicure services

  • Nail art services

For learners who fall short of the Level 2 entry requirements, we offer an Introduction to beauty therapy through a Skills and Employability pathway. This qualification is a support role within a commercial beauty environment and includes a variety of basic beauty skills such as facials, manicure and nail treatments, and make-up. This qualification will prepare learners for progression to Level 2 beauty, make-up and nails.

The Level 3 Diploma in Nail Services covers a wide range of skills and knowledge required for working in the nail technology industry.

Core topics include:

  • Monitor procedures to safely control work operations

  • Enhancing and maintaining nails using UV gel

  • Liquid and powder nail enhancements

  • Chemistry of nail products

  • Creating and applying nail art

  • Develop a range of creative nail images

  • Anatomy and physiology for hands and feet

  • Enhancing nails using electrical files

  • Plan and provide airbrush designs for nails

  • Contribute to the planning and implementation of promotional activities

Work experience is an essential part of all full-time study programmes. Learners complete a minimum of 35 hours in an industry-linked environment per academic year/qualification.

 

How Will I Be Assessed?

Diploma and NVQ qualifications are graded pass, merit, distinction, and distinction* by an external end-point assessment (EPA). This includes:

  • Practical observations

  • Externally set written/or online modular tests

  • Verbal questioning

Milestone assessment points will track learner progress in preparation for the end-point assessment, and these include written tests and assignments, spoken questioning, practical skills demonstrations, and a mock assessment.

Level 2 Nails and Level 3 (Part-time)

Continuous on-course assessment involves:

  • Practical observations

  • Externally set written/or online modular tests

  • Verbal questioning

For Level 3 qualifications, all grades carry UCAS points to support progression to higher education.

What could this course lead to?

The Level 2 Certificate in Nail Treatments is aimed at learners who are looking to start a career in the nail industry. Learners can progress into employment, onto an apprenticeship, or further their studies by taking the Level 3 Nail Technologies - or other qualifications at Level 2 such as Beauty Therapy, to broaden their skills base and support employability.

The Level 3 Diploma in Nail Services aims to provide a range of specialist technical practical skills and knowledge, which will equip learners to seek employment or further training within the nail industry.

  • Spas

  • Product retail

  • Manufacturing companies

Opportunities for freelance work or self-employment are unlimited for motivated individuals.
