Carpentry and Joinery

We deliver the Apprenticeship Standard Level 2 in both Site and Bench Joinery, and the Advanced Apprenticeship Standard in Site Joinery - Level 3.

The apprenticeship in site joinery is delivered in our specialist facilities and in the workplace by highly qualified, dedicated vocational staff. The qualification is a mix of practical hands-on work, interactive classroom theory activities, and on-site evidence. Learners will study basic hand skills to perfect simulated first fix, second fix, and structural carpentry tasks in practical sessions, underpinned by technology classes. They will also be taught health and safety.

At Level 3, the site apprenticeship will include advanced roofing techniques, fitting stairs with turns, double doors, manufacturing processes, and sustainability.

You will attend college one day per week to learn the knowledge required to do your job and develop your skills. You will be observed in the workplace by an assessor who will support you to produce a portfolio of evidence.

Once you have gained the required knowledge and skills, you will be required to undertake an end-point assessment (EPA), where your skills will be externally assessed by an independent organisation.

Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship in Site Joinery, you may be able to progress to the Advanced Apprenticeship.

Upon successful completion of the Advanced Apprenticeship in either Site or Bench Joinery, you can progress to an HNC at Level 4 or an HND at Level 5.

Apprentices who follow the site carpentry route can have a varied career working on new builds, refurbishments, or in specialist areas. Bench joinery apprentices will work on a variety of wood products in production, depending on the company.
