Award in Education & Training Level 3

The Highfield Level 3 Award in Education and Training (RQF) has been designed to provide an introduction to teaching for individuals who would like to work, or currently work within FE colleges, Independent Training Providers and/or Local Authorities.

It can meet the needs of a range of trainee teachers, such as:

• Individuals not currently teaching or training – achievement of the qualification does not require practice other than micro-teaching
• Individuals currently teaching and training, including those new to the profession – although the qualification does not require practice, opportunities may be made available to observe and provide feedback on a trainee teacher’s practice
• Individuals currently working as assessors, who wish to achieve a qualification that provides an introduction to teaching.

Completing this qualification will provide you with the foundation you need to pursue a rewarding career in teaching or training, offering opportunities to work in schools, colleges or vocational education settings.

This course provides many key benefits and helps you develop the following skills:

• Lesson planning and delivery: Learn to design and deliver engaging and inclusive lessons, crucial for success in teaching roles.
• Assessment and feedback: Gain the skills to assess learners’ progress and provide constructive feedback.
• Classroom management: Develop effective strategies to manage and support learners in a classroom setting.
• Communication skills: Strengthen your ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups of learners.
• Confidence in teaching: Build your confidence as an educator and learn the foundations of teaching in the Lifelong Learning sector.

To achieve the qualification, you will need to complete the following assessments: Three written assignments throughout the course  A 15-minute micro-teach session and an inclusive lesson plan Peer assessment of three trainee teachers.

To complete this qualification, learners are required to be a minimum of 19 years of age.

There are no additional formal entry requirements. An initial assessment of English and ICT skills will take place during the first session. While not mandatory, trainee teachers would benefit from having a vocational or academic subject they intend to teach.

The course duration is 12 weeks, and all sessions will take place on campus.  Classes will typically last 3 hours each week from 5-8 pm.  Additionally, there will be time required to conduct reading and independent writing of assignments. One-to-one support is available from your class tutor, giving you personalised guidance whenever you need it.
