Oldham College Graphic Design students’ RAL rebrand

Earlier this year, Level 3 Graphic Design learners worked with civil engineering company Rowan Ashworth Limited (RAL) to redesign their logo.

As part of this exciting opportunity, learners were invited to each produce a design proposal and pitch it directly to the company.

RAL then selected six students to progress further: Year 1 students Holly, Megan and Usman, and Year 2 students Noah, Lauren and Luis.

The students worked collaboratively with RAL to develop and refine the final branding design, and the logo is now used across the company’s website, social media, workwear and physical materials used on construction sites.

Reflecting on the opportunity, Usman said: “I enjoyed developing my creativity on this project. It has given me real-world experience of working to a brief and meeting a client’s expectations.”

Zack Maher and Anthony Ashton from RAL (pictured above with Holly, Megan and Usman) praised our learners for working to a professional standard throughout the collaboration. They said:

“The project has been a great success. Learners have shown an absolutely brilliant standard, which has really highlighted the quality of their work.”

Lauren Driscoll, Programme Tutor – Art & Design, said: “This opportunity gave our learners valuable experience of working on a live client brief and helped them develop their communication, presentation, and teamwork skills in a professional environment.

“Being able to pitch ideas directly to a real company and contribute to a final design that will be used commercially has boosted their confidence and provided meaningful industry experience, which will support their future progression into higher education and creative careers.”
