Fashion & Textiles Level 2

Course Details

What Will I Study?

Take your first steps into fashion. You'll learn the basics of fashion design and garment construction, experiment with textile techniques like print, stitch and embellishment, and develop your drawing and fashion illustration – building a portfolio of your own designs ready for Level 3.

We co-design parts of the course with fashion and textile industry specialists, so what you learn reflects real creative practice. You'll gain experience of working in a professional context, creating design and made work for clients including community groups, and private and public organisations — building the confidence, experience and relevant portfolio that support your next step. Trips and industry visits also enrich your cultural and creative knowledge.

How Will I Be Assessed?

Continuous assessment across each project. For every project, you will keep a sketchbook of research and experiments that leads to a final piece, which is assessed through a presentation and exhibition. Feedback is recorded on the college's digital assessment platform and one-to-one tutorials review your progress and set stretching targets. Your final grade comes from your Final Major Project (FMP): an exhibition piece of your own choosing, assessed by tutors and peers and externally moderated.

What Could This Course Lead To?

Successful completion of this course will allow you to progress to Level 3 Fashion & Textiles. In the longer term, you could work as a Fashion Designer, Textile Designer, Pattern Cutter, Stylist or Fashion Buyer. The creative industries are one of the UK's fastest-growing sectors, with key creative jobs projected to grow by 416,000 (27%) between 2025 and 2035 (Skills England, 2026).
