Diploma for Early Years Practitioner

Over the duration of this course you will develop the knowledge and understanding of caring for babies and young children from birth to 7 years of age, with applied knowledge in the early years (0-5 years). You will be supported to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours required for the industry, learning about the role and responsibilities of the early years practitioner in terms of health and safety, safeguarding, equality diversity and inclusion and how to care for, plan and support activities for baby and children's development.

There are no specific entry requirements for this course but you must be employed or have an employer willing to support placement for a minimum of 16 hours per week for the duration of the course.

From September 2026 all employed and volunteer applicants will need to have an Enhanced Children's Workforce DBS that is approved by their employer or placement host before starting a placement.  If this is not in place you will not be able to start the course.  You will also need a letter/email from the employer/placement host, confirming their support for the duration of the course and permission for the assessments to take place.
