Apprenticeship Academy supporting learners into work
11th May 2026

More than 40 learners are now taking part in our Apprenticeship Academy, designed to support students progressing into apprenticeships.
We launched the programme earlier this year in response to feedback from employers, who told us that professional behaviour and work readiness are just as important as qualifications.
Since February, learners have been on an ongoing programme focused on helping them prepare for the workplace. This has included sessions on career planning, interview skills and employer expectations, alongside practical activities such as video CVs and recruitment-style workshops.
As part of the programme, learners recently took part in a workshop delivered by Manchester Airport Group (MAG). The session gave students an insight into the organisation, its apprenticeship and graduate opportunities and the application process.
Melissa Parlour, Early Talent Manager at Manchester Airport Group, also shared her own career journey, having completed a Level 4 Customer Service Representative (CSR) apprenticeship with the organisation. She spoke to learners about progression opportunities and gave practical advice on applying for roles.
The Apprenticeship Academy gives students a clear pathway into work while helping employers access well-prepared, work-ready candidates. Bringing businesses like Manchester Airport Group into the programme helps learners understand what is expected and build confidence ahead of applying for roles.
Lisa Liddy, Assistant Principal for Apprenticeships and Skills at Oldham College, said:
“The Apprenticeship Academy is about making sure our learners are ready for the realities of work. It’s not just about qualifications, it’s about soft skills such as confidence, attitude and understanding what employers expect.
“Working closely with employers is a key part of this. It gives learners the opportunity to hear directly from industry, better understand what they need to succeed, and develop the professional behaviours and soft skills employers value most, including communication, teamwork, problem-solving and confidence in the workplace.”
The programme will continue over the coming weeks, with learners working towards clear progression plans as they prepare to apply for apprenticeship opportunities.
