Course Details

What Will I Study?

All new Barbering learners start on the Level 2 Diploma in Barbering. You will study theoretical aspects of Barbering, and apply them during practical assessment tasks.

Core topics include:

  • Health and Safety
  • Consultation
  • Shampoo & condition
  • Cutting men’s hair
  • Cutting facial hair
  • Colour and lighten hair
  • Provide perming services
  • Dry and finish men's hair
  • Create an image based on a theme.

This qualification is aimed at learners aged 16-18 who need to achieve English and maths GCSE grades 3-9. 

Uniform and kit required - more information will be provided after application.

 

For learners who don't meet the Level 2 entry requirements we offer an introduction via the Skills & Employability pathway. This qualification is a support role within a commercial Hair or Barbering environment and includes a variety of basic Hair and Barbering skills such as shampooing, hair and scalp consultation and basic styling.

The Level 3 Certificate in Barbering covers advanced practical skills and essential knowledge for working within the barbering industry.

Core topics include:

  • Health & Safety
  • Consultation
  • Cutting men’s hair
  • Cutting facial hair
  • Shaving and facial massage service

This qualification is aimed at learners who have previously achieved English and maths GCSE grades 3-9/A-D.

Uniform and kit required - more information will be provided after application.

 

There will be costs associated with the kit and salon uniform required for the course.

Work experience is an essential part of all full time study programmes. Learners complete a minimum of 35 hours within an industry linked environment per academic year/qualification.

How Will I Be Assessed?

Level 2 Diploma/Level 3 Certificate in Barbering  

Continuous assessment includes:

  • Practical observations
  • Online modular tests
  • Verbal questioning.

All Diploma/Certificate qualification practical assessments are graded at Pass, Merit or Distinction.

For Level 3 qualifications, ALL grade levels carry UCAS points to support progression to higher education.

What could this course lead to?

The Level 2 Diploma in Barbering is aimed at learners looking to start a career in the Barbering industry. On completion of the course, learners can progress into employment, onto an apprenticeship or further their studies by taking a Level 3 Certificate in Barbering.

Other Level 2 pathways, such as Level 2 Women's Hairdressing, can further broaden career opportunities.

The Level 3 Certificate in Barbering provides you with a range of specialist technical skills and knowledge that will equip you to seek employment or further training within the Hairdressing industry.
