Course Details
What Will I Study?
If you would like to work as a digital technical specialist in a large tech organisation or governmental organisation, or work in a cyber security role, this new generation of Gold Standard qualifications could be for you. T Levels offer an attractive technical alternative to studying three different A Levels.
Rapid developments in technology have brought with them a range of digital jobs, meaning that there are lots of opportunities to climb the career ladder and work for some great companies along the way. Developed by the Institute of Apprenticeships, the Department for Education and employers such as Fujitsu, Accenture and Lloyds Banking Group, this T Level is aimed to get you work ready for a career in the digital industry. You will be placed in a local or regional business to gain valuable industry experience: currently, our learners are placed in companies such as Autotrader, Inclusive Bytes and the NHS.
This two-year course offers you the chance to become ready for employment or further study, and the chance to develop the knowledge, concepts and theories related to specific job roles including Cyber Security Engineer, Network Engineer, Infrastructure Engineer, Data Centre Administrator and System Admin. The course includes:
- Digital industry core theory, concepts and skills
- Digital Business Service specialist skills and knowledge
- An industry placement with an employer lasting at least 45 days
- A minimum standard in Maths and English.
You will learn the relevant skills and knowledge that form the core business principles in the digital industry. You will study the ethical and legal implications of digital technology and their impact on the economy and business solutions. You will also explore emerging technologies, and new or rapidly developing innovations expected to have a significant impact on industries and society within the next five to ten years.
Cyber Security Specialisation focuses on the procedures and controls to maintain digital security, including risk assessment, systems evaluation and understanding the technical, physical and human aspects of internet security. This is a growth industry that holds exciting prospects for cyber security professionals in national security, commerce and public sector organisations.
If you are keen to progress onto a T Level but haven’t quite got the grades, or if you need that little bit longer to develop your skills and knowledge before making the step to a T Level, then completing a Level 2 year is perfect for you.
The Digital T Level Foundation year is specifically designed to develop your skills, experience, knowledge and behaviours to support progression onto T Level. It is aimed at those learners who are not quite ready to start a T Level but have the potential to progress.
How Will I Be Assessed?
Assessment of your knowledge, skills and understanding will be through an externally set exam (two papers), a specialist and employer set project that covers the core units, and a project which will include:
- Internally assessed projects
- Presentations
- Practical assessments
- Building a portfolio.
Collaborative learning means you will work with your peers to problem solve, design, implement and test networks and security systems in our purpose-built labs, agile workshop and classrooms. You will also sit an occupational specialist practical exam in the second year.
You will also need to successfully complete a 45 day placement in a relevant business or organisation as part of the T Level.
What could this course lead to?
Learners who achieve this qualification can progress into employment, higher education or onto an apprenticeship, depending on their chosen occupational specialism.
A Digital T Level can lead directly into employment in roles such as Cyber Security Engineer, Technologist Technician and Network Manager/Engineer.
If you wish to study at university, this T Level attracts UCAS point scores equal to three A Levels.
