Level 2 Diploma in Hair & Media Make-up

Entry requirement: three GCSEs at grade 3 or above

Core topics include:

• Working in beauty-related industries
• Health and safety
• Client care and communication
• Apply make-up
• Body art design
• Eye treatments
• Photographic make-up
• Spray tanning
• Styling and dressing hair
• Colouring hair
• Make hair additions.

For learners who fall just short of the Level 2 GCSE entry requirements for the technical course, we can start them on a smaller Level 2 beauty qualification, which includes nails and make-up, or a Level 1 Introduction to Beauty Therapy through a Skills and Employability pathway. This qualification is a support role within a commercial beauty environment and includes a variety of basic beauty skills such as facials, manicures and nail treatments, and make-up. This qualification will prepare learners for progression to Level 2 Beauty, Make-up and Nails.

Work experience is an essential part of all full-time study programmes. Learners will complete a minimum of 35 hours within an industry-linked environment per academic year/qualification.

Uniform and kit are required for all courses. A bursary is available, subject to approval.

VRQ Qualifications are assessed continuously based on module completion.

You will be assessed through:

• Practical assessments on live models

• Online theory exams

• Verbal questions

• Creating face charts and look books

For Level 3 qualifications, all grades carry UCAS points to support progression to Higher Education.

The Level 2 Diploma in Hair and Media Make-up is aimed at learners who are looking to start a career as a make-up artist. Learners can progress into employment, onto an apprenticeship, or further their studies by taking either of the Level 3 make-up qualifications. Also available are other qualifications at Level 2, such as beauty therapy or hairdressing, to broaden their skills base and support employability.

The Level 3 Diploma in Theatrical, Special Effects, Media Make-up and Hairdressing provides you with specialist practical skills and knowledge, which will help you to seek employment or progression within the theatrical and media make-up industry.
