Continuing Professional Development

Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

We are a high performing organisation in which all staff are supported and encouraged to be high performing in their roles. That’s why we invest significantly in staff development and put aside time for it in our annual calendar. As well as encouraging all our staff to learn and develop throughout the year we dedicate a whole week to CPD every summer.

We offer professional development support and opportunities to develop and embed the skills, knowledge and competence required to support the ‘dual expertise’ of all staff and we ensure that everyone has the  qualifications for their roles.

It is our aim that staff will undertake a minimum of 35 hours CPD per academic year. We are particularly keen that our staff have a good knowledge of latest practice and developments in their particular field so we ensure that all our teaching staff engage with Industrial Experience for updating their skills and knowledge  and all staff benefit from individual CPD through sector and business networks and professional associations.

Oldham College has its own bespoke – and award-winning – teacher development programme called ‘Teaching for Distinction’ which we are currently enhancing. We have Advanced Practitioners in every faculty, recognised for their experience and expertise in teaching, on hand to support you in your development.

All new staff are assigned a mentor to guide you through the first weeks and months of your new role and we have a comprehensive programme of mandatory training to make sure you have all the information you need to do your job well.

We are keen to ensure all our staff achieve their potential and offer support for higher study. If you want to combine a teaching role with postgraduate study we can fund you to do this, so long as the focus of this work is on the practical application of evidence-based pedagogy.
