We Care 4 Calais! – Oldham College ESOL Students Pack a Rucksack

Posted on: 22 June 2018

Students at Oldham College have been packing rucksacks with food, clothes and toiletries to send to the 2500 plus refugees living and sleeping rough in Calais and Brussels for the charity Care 4 Calais.

ICT teacher, Seemi Raheel, said ‘we’ve been amazed by the amount of donations our students have made to support the charity. Their thoughtfulness and kindness is truly inspirational.

Rachna Choudhury, an ESOL teacher, added: ‘our students have even taken the time to write personal messages of encouragement and hope for refugees’.

We’ve managed to make up over 30 rucksack and parcels filled with food and toiletries, clothes and blankets to send to Calais. In addition, the packing and labelling of the packs has really supported the development of teamwork and English skills for our students. We are so proud of what they’ve been able to achieve by working together in just a matter of weeks. Well done to all of our ESOL Students for showing they Care 4 Calais!

Care4Calais provides direct aid to refugees living in the worst conditions across France and Belgium who do not have access to shelter from the elements, basic sanitation or health facilities, adequate food, clothing or other daily essentials.
