It can help you to check in with how you feel by thinking of it in a variety of ways.

There is a physical element to how you feel. If you stop and examine how you are feeling physically, you might find you have your shoulders hunched up and that you are feeling stressed. It’s good to recognise that and to move and change your posture.

You might then like to think about how you are feeling emotionally. Are you feeling calm? down? happy? Does that link with how you felt physically? Usually it does. Certain emotions tend to lead to certain physical feelings. Think about when you are nervous. Your mouth feels dry, your throat tightens up, you might breathe more quickly or shake ...

Your thinking state is also very important. Are you feeling clear-headed and full of ideas or are you feeling that your head is full of cotton wool and you can’t think straight?

Once you have decided what your state is, what are you going to do about it? The more you tune in to your state, the more you will be aware of it and keeping yourself in a good state will become easier.
