Holly Winterburn completed her traineeship in Child Care at Oldham College with work experience at Stepping Stones Nursery. She successfully progressed to an apprenticeship and is completing her training with Oldham College whilst employed by the nursery.
She said: “When I was at school they told me that it would be difficult to undertake an apprenticeship due to my grades. But I was determined and now I’ve finally done it and it’s great. I like working with all the staff here, my bosses as well as the children of course! We’re always busy but it’s really fun and enjoyable. Every day is different and we have the opportunity to organise lots of fun activities for the children such as painting and colouring in.
This apprenticeship has really made a positive difference to my life. It means I’m learning on the job whilst earning money. I go to college every Tuesday to study Child Care as well as English and Maths. I’ve lots of friends there and the tutors are really supportive. I aim to get all my grades on this Level 2 course so that I can progress towards a Level 3 qualification and ultimately I’d like to become a full time nursery nurse. I’d definitely recommend the apprenticeship route as you benefit from working in the environment that you want to be in as well as getting on with coursework.”
