Jayne Sladen, Head of Acting, Dance & Musical Theatre, has announced the residency of Tangled Dance Company at Oldham College. The partnership will commence on 14th October and following a successful teaching scheme that was piloted last year.

Three members from Tangled joined both Ballet and Contemporary dance technique classes to raise the standards of Oldham College learners in terms of physical technique and professionalism. The company gave their advice and guidance on audition opportunities, universities, funding opportunities, and industry expectations. They also helped older students with solos for university admissions, in particular The Northern School of Contemporary Dance. Students commented on how they appreciated the standard of the professional dancers and the hard work Tangled put in.

During the Summer holidays first year students joined Tangled on tour to watch behind the scenes preparation and the performance itself.

This year Tangled are returning to teach three classes including contact improvisation and contemporary dance and will also perform a triple bill at the Grange theatre free of charge for Oldham College students. Students have been invited to audition for Tangled’s Heaton Park Christmas performance: ‘Whispers of a Christmas Tale’.

Speaking of the partnership, Curriculum leader Jayne Sladen feels “We need to promote and nurture young dance companies and play a pivotal role in encouraging young dance artists to find funding and opportunities to pursue a career in dance.”

Tangled Artistic Director, Amy Eccleston said: “Tangled Dance Company are based in Manchester and committed to making contemporary dance accessible to the public. We aim to create work that engages with diverse audiences allowing people of all ages and backgrounds to indulge in contemporary art. We hope our work inspires others to indulge in the arts and wish to encourage appreciation and interaction.”

With its highly experienced teachers, professional facilities, strong industry links and the opportunity to achieve a range of relevant qualifications, Oldham College provides the ideal training ground for this industry. Students have great access to an impressive range of learning resources, performing arts suites and specialist industry standard facilities.
