STUDENT Malique Thompson-Dwyer has landed a role in the TV soap 'Hollyoaks', and is set to join the cast of the Channel 4 soap in Autumn as a cousin of the McQueens.

The 18 year old, who has recently finished his studies at Oldham College, secured the part after a two-stage audition process.

He said: “I am a big fan of Hollyoaks, so this is a dream come true. I was positive when I attended the auditions and I'm ecstatic that I've landed the role.

“I am looking forward to start filming and I am very excited to meet the rest of that cast. So far everyone has been amazing and they are all genuinely nice people."

The former Oldham College student managed to juggle attending auditions with studying for his Extended Diploma in Acting and is thrilled about joining the cast. At the college Malique successfully landed two major roles in the college's shows 'Long John Silver' and Treasure Island.'

He said: “Studying at Oldham College really helped me to build my confidence. I have previously attended a small drama class but my experience at the college has really helped me to build my skills, as it offers great facilities such as the Grange Theatre, so students get the chance to perform in front of a large audience.

"My tutor Miranda Parker helped me to believe in myself and told me that I had talent. She really supported and encouraged me to audition for roles in 'Long John Silver' and Treasure Island'.”

Miranda Parker, Teacher in Faculty of Performing Arts, at Oldham College, said: “Malique is an incredibly gifted young man. He was a joy to work with in class, and always delivered exciting elements to all the different roles he played. I feel that Oldham College has served Malique well. He has made friends, grown in confidence and gained acting opportunities which have given him the work skills that he will need for his future career.”

Malique will make his debut alongside the former Waterloo star Chelsea Healy, who will be playing his on-screen mum. He will play the role of swaggering Prince who’s described as having a rebellious, adventurous spirit.

This is not the first time for the Oldham student to have starred on TV; last Summer, he made a guest appearance on 'Tracey Beaker' and he has also auditioned for a movie directed by Hollywood A-lister Guy Ritchie.

Malique follows in the footsteps of Oldham-born actors and former 'Hollyoaks' stars Ricky Whittle, who played Calvin Valentine, Dominique Jackson, who played Calvin’s younger sister Lauren Valentine, and her on screen boyfriend Barry ‘Newt’ Newton, who was played by Nico Mirallegro.
