Ashton United Football Club signs first College student
Following his success at recent trials which secured him a place with the club’s pre-season training, Brad Humphreys is now the first Oldham College student to be signed by Ashton United Football Club.
Andy Finnigan, Ashton United’s Reserve Manager said: “We are pleased that the recent partnership with Oldham College has quickly resulted in our first signing through them. Brad will continue to train with us and be around the squad on match days and where possible be involved in games. As he’s still quite young, we want to ensure he gains valuable experience and develops his game. Therefore he will spend next season out on loan to West Lancashire Football League side Eagley FC. Should he progress in the way we anticipate, Ashton United would be looking to push him on to be a reserve team regular from season 2016/17.”
Brad will continue his education at Oldham College for a third year where he will complete the CYQ fitness instructor course. Although Brad was released by Oldham Athletic from their academy set up, he is pleased that he persevered with his passion and joined the College’s Football Academy. Two years on, he is delighted to benefit from this second opportunity with a semi - professional club.
John Pietrzak, Oldham College’s Head of Faculty for Sport, Travel and Public Services, said: “We initiated the partnership with Ashton United as we were keen to offer realistic football progression pathways for our players. It’s fantastic to see how quickly that these ambitions have come to fruition and we look forward to helping many more talented young players progress with the game.”
As well as the progression opportunities with Ashton United, Oldham Athletics continue to monitor the progress of Oldham College students. Oldham College has seen some fine players come through the College and now hopes to see more in the future. Its Football Academy provides students with a high quality standard of coaching and education to give them the best chance of progressing in both aspects of their life.
