The course has been designed with the help of employers to attract new people into the catering industry and upskill the existing workforce. It involves technical knowledge and real practical experience. The assessments will be completed in the workplace with functional skills classes delivered at college in the main campus.
Catering thanks to Mary Berry and Gordon Ramsey has become a more respected and attractive industry. Several sectors of industry include catering as an important behind the scenes activity, these include hospitals, schools and care homes. Restaurants form a very important part of our social life whether they are traditional or foreign.
The course will include maintaining a safe, hygienic and secure environment, working effectively in a team, maintaining food safety when storing, preparing and cooking food along with optional units to suit the learner’s workplace.
As a student of Oldham College you will have full use of all the college facilities
Level 2 Certificate in Food Production and Cooking
Technical Certificate in Catering Principles
Functional Skills Level 1
English and Maths (unless already accredited)
There are no formal entry requirements for this pathway.
If you are ages 16-23 the Skills Funding Agency will fund the cost of the training.
If you are aged 24+ an employer contribution would be required.
Progression routes include the Level 3 Hospitality, Supervision and Leadership or higher level Apprenticeship courses.
