This qualification is intended for candidates who assess occupational competence in an individual’s work environment and have completed Level 3 Award Understanding Principles and Practices of Assessment.

The course is a 20 week programme

Candidates will work with two learners (these can be two of their own learners or two learners they can work with on a voluntary basis.  The candidate must arrange the two learners prior to the course starting. 

Candidates will meet with their Assessor/Tutor on a 1:1 basis. 

This qualification is assessed via a portfolio of evidence and observation of practice  

Once completing the Level 3 Award in Assessing Occupational Competence in the Work Environment candidates can progress onto:

Level 4 Award in Understanding the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice

The Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment enables candidates to pursue a career as an assessor in FE Colleges and Training Providers

No Formal Entry Qualifications

However, learners must meet the necessary standards of English, Mathematics and Information and communication technology.  It is also advised learners already hold a recognised Level 3 qualification in the subject they wish to assess in the future.

This means you will:

  • Study a core qualification in a vocational discipline and continue to develop your English and Maths skills through functional skills, GCSE resits and the option of Level 3 qualifications
  • Participate in meaningful work experience
  • Enjoy a range of enrichment opportunities e.g. basketball, archery, skiing and sign language
  • Take part in dedicated tutorial sessions to review your progress and development
