This qualification is intended for those who wish to gain an understanding of the principles and practices of assessment.  This is the first step for those who wish to continue and complete their assessor qualification. 
The course is a 20 week programme

Candidates will attend a one day workshop to gain the knowledge needed to complete their assessment.  The remaining qualification will be competed on a 1:1 basis.
This qualification is assessed via assignment or professional discussion 

Once completing the Level 3 Award Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment, the candidate can progress onto:

Level 3 Award Assessing Occupational Competence in the Work Environment  
Level 3 Award in Education and Training

The Level 3 Award in Understanding Principles and Practices of Assessment enables candidates to pursue a career as an assessor in FE Colleges and Training Providers.

However, learners must meet the necessary standards of English, Mathematics and Information and communication technology.  It is also advised learners already hold a recognised Level 3 qualification in the subject they wish to assess in the future.

This means you will:

  • Study a core qualification in a vocational discipline and continue to develop your English and Maths skills through functional skills, GCSE resits and the option of Level 3 qualifications
  • Participate in meaningful work experience
  • Enjoy a range of enrichment opportunities e.g. basketball, archery, skiing and sign language
  • Take part in dedicated tutorial sessions to review your progress and development
