The level 3 course is available as a one-year course starting in September and ending the following June. Attendance is one evening per week. It is designed to provide an insight into professional issues, person centred therapy and other counselling orientations. You will also develop your skills for use in a supportive role. 

The course will cover:

  • Principles of person centred therapy
  • Counselling skills
  • Principles of other therapeutic orientations (Psychodynamic and Behaviourist theories and models)
  • Personal Development
  • Legal and professional issues, including ethics
  • Contracting in counselling sessions
  • Supervision.

 Offering teaching and learning techniques through:

  • Lectures
  • Tutorials
  • Audio-visual presentations
  • Demonstrations
  • Resource Based Learning Centres
  • Specialist Teaching Facilities
  • Group Work
  • Assignments
  • Skills practice and recordings. 
  • The course is assessed through a series of assignments, recordings and journal entries which are uploaded onto the college VITAL system.

    This course is designed to help students gain the skills and practical understanding required to follow a career requiring enhanced interpersonal skills and as the next level to qualified counsellor training.

    Level 2 – 4 x GCSE grade D or level 3 (including English and Maths)
    For internal progression and external applicants, successful completion of level 2 award in counselling concepts or an equivalent qualification.
    • Access to HE (Health Professions)
    • Access to HE Diploma (Social Work, Teaching and Social Sciences).
