Study on this course will offer diverse career opportunities. You might become an actor in theatre, on T.V. or small-scale touring. You could become a dancer in a theatre company, in the commercial world or dance tour. You could become a performer in a West End musical or a presenter on T.V. You may crew for theatres or cruise ships, become a lighting designer, stage manager or sound engineer.
You could set up your own company, or take on a career in alternative industries, such as Advertising, Marketing, Media and Retail. Salaries can vary enormously according to your career path. You could become a teacher/specialist in your area. As a teacher you could potentially earn, on average, £30,000.

You will be able to specialise in your preferred choice of Acting, Dance, Musical Theatre or Technical Theatre.
During your two years with us, your studies will include the following:

  • Acting skills
  • Dance skills
  • Singing skills
  • Operating lights and sound
  • Stage management

As well as developing performance or production skills, you will participate in maths and English classes to ensure that you are improving core skills which will help you gain professional employment in the Performing Arts industry.

Level 3 – 4 x GCSE grades A-C or level 4-9 ( including English and Maths)
You will be assessed through practical assignments and live projects, for example productions, films, show reels, and tours.
This qualification will enable you to progress to university and drama schools, into employment or onto an apprenticeship.
You will be required to audition or take part in an interview. You will be given further information on application.
Do you see yourself as an Actor, Dancer, Theatre Technician, Musical Theatre performer or in any industry that requires strong communication skills, confidence and entrepreneurship? If so, this could be the course for you. During your studies you will work in our specialist studios and professional theatre participating in regular skills and technique classes, productions, tours, master-classes, enrichment and competitions. As well as our on-site shows and workshops at the Grange Theatre, we respond to the needs of schools, community groups and Performing Arts employers, providing valuable work experience opportunities for all our students.
You can progress locally to the University Centre Oldham onto the FdA Performance or the BA (Hons) Performance. 
You will experience the world of work through productions in professional theatres & venues, and Front-of-House at the Grange Theatre. You will also work with industry specialists participating in master-classes. Our performers are frequently approached by external organisations to perform for high-profile public events.

Study Programme

All students at Oldham College will participate in a personalised study programme that will maximise your potential and enable you to progress onto employment, apprenticeships or higher education.

This means you will:

  • Study a core qualification in a vocational discipline and continue to develop your English and Maths skills through functional skills, GCSE resits and the option of Level 3 qualifications
  • Participate in meaningful work experience
  • Enjoy a range of enrichment opportunities e.g. basketball, archery, skiing and sign language
  • Take part in dedicated tutorial sessions to review your progress and development
