No cost for 16-18 year olds.

As a student you will work towards Entry 3 or Level 1 in your chosen vocational area. This will ensure you develop the skills that will enable you to progress onto further mainstream vocational learning or employment.  In addition you will complete GCSE or Functional Skills qualifications in maths and English. 

Class sizes are small and you will be taught by a highly qualified team of tutors, dedicated to ensuring your learning experience is fun, challenging and meaningful. You could have access to specialist additional learning support. You will have your own named, Personal Tutor and you will have access to specialist classrooms and resources. You will have targets set specifically for your needs and end goals,  which will be monitored and reviewed regularly with your Personal Tutor, to ensure your learning journey stays on track. We have strong links with family and professionals who are invited to be involved in all aspects of your development.

Method of assessments are varied to meet your needs and abilities and will include written and verbal assessments, observation and witness statements, photographic and video evidence.  

You must want to improve you English, maths and employability skills, and be committed to 100% attendance.

You can apply to enrol on Pathway to Vocational Level 1, if you have already identified your vocational route, or have successfully completed Pathway to Progression.  It can lead to progression to a higher level course, Traineeship or Apprenticeship. The programme includes:

  • Reading
  • Pastoral/1-1 target setting
  • English GCSE or FS
  • Maths GCSE or FS
  • Life, Social & Employability skills
  • Work experience
  • Four hours specialist vocational training in one of the following:
  • Motor Vehicle, Construction Craft, Hairdressing, Health and Social Care,  ICT,  Retail, Sport and Art. 

You will complete units related to Employability Skills and will have the opportunity to participate in a range of relevant work experience placements tailored to your area of interests and needs.

Study Programme

All students at Oldham College will participate in a personalised study programme that will maximise your potential and enable you to progress onto employment, apprenticeships or higher education.

This means you will:

  • Study a core qualification in a vocational discipline and continue to develop your English and Maths skills through functional skills, GCSE resits and the option of Level 3 qualifications
  • Participate in meaningful work experience
  • Enjoy a range of enrichment opportunities e.g. basketball, archery, skiing and sign language
  • Take part in dedicated tutorial sessions to review your progress and development
