Our course offers those students with the necessary entry requirements the chance to explore in more detail what it takes to work in the digital technologies industry and the skills and knowledge required. This is a 1 year course which will build on prior knowledge as well as introducing many new concepts and skills that the students can take forward as they learn more about this exciting and growing area of employment.

Students will explore many areas of Hardware and Networking during their studies on this 1 year academic programme:

  • How computer systems operate
  • Installing computer software
  • Hardware components
  • How networks connect people and computers
Students will be assessed by a variety of means including formal written evidence, producing wikis and blogs and also delivering presentations. We also assess students practical abilities using recorded evidence, both video and audio.

We aim to give students the opportunities to engage with employers within the digital industries sector. This can range from lectures and master classes through to a short placement of internship with one of the members of our employer advisory board.

  • Level 3 2 year Extended Diploma Hardware and Networking or software development
  • Full time employment 
  • First and second line support
  • Network support
  • PC repair and build.

Students can expect to earn £15K - £20K for a first or second line support role through to £45K - £70K for experienced and talented network engineers or administrators.

Level 2 – 4 x GCSE grade D or level 3 (including English and Maths)

Level 3 for those students with the necessary entry qualifications.

Study Programme

All students at Oldham College will participate in a personalised study programme that will maximise your potential and enable you to progress onto employment, apprenticeships or higher education.

  • Study a core qualification in a vocational discipline and continue to develop your English and Maths skills through functional skills, GCSE resits and the option of Level 3 qualifications
  • Participate in meaningful work experience
  • Enjoy a range of enrichment opportunities e.g. basketball, archery, skiing and sign language
  • Take part in dedicated tutorial sessions to review your progress and development
