Current figures show that the average salary for Construction in the North West is £26,000 per annum.

The course is free to 16 – 18 year olds.

Units to be covered:

  • Principles of building construction, information and communication
  • Health, safety and welfare in construction
  • Prepare surfaces for decoration
  • Apply standard papers to walls and ceilings
  • Apply paint systems to brush and roller to complex areas
  • Producing specialist finishes for decorative work
  • Creating and applying colour
  • Erecting and dismantling access equipment and working platforms.

    Level 1 – 3 x GCSES at grades E or level 2/3 (including English and Maths)

    Each theory unit has its own multiple choice test and practical assessments are set by the awarding body.

    On completion of the course you can progress on to Level 2 Painting and Decorating or on to the part time apprenticeship course if you have gained suitable employment.

    The course gives you the basic practical skills to enable you to follow a career in Painting and Decorating. The course has been designed to help students underpin knowledge deemed necessary to enable progression to the Level 3 Craft Diploma.

    We will look to offer work experience wherever possible. In the past level 1 students have created decking areas and manufactured bookcases for schools and other departments within the College.
