Students can gain employment as either a Site or Bench Joiner. Current figures show that the average salary for Construction in the North West is £26,000 per annum.

The course is free to 16 – 18 year olds.

Health, safety and welfare in construction and associated industries

Analysing technical information, quantities and communication with others
Analysing the construction industry and built environment
Carry out first fixing operations
Carry out second fixing operations
Set up and operate cutting and shaping machinery
Erect complex structural car casing components
Install and maintain non-structural and structural components

Level 1 – 3 x GCSES at grades E or level 2/3 (including English and Maths)

Each theory unit has its own multiple choice test and practical assessments are set by the awarding body.

On completion students can progress into employment or progress on to a part time apprenticeship course. 

Students need to have completed the Level 2 Diploma in Carpentry & Joinery or an equivalent course and have gained 2 GCSE’s as per Level 1 entry requirements.

This course has been designed to help students gain an advanced level of knowledge and associated practical skills demanded within the construction industry.

We will look to offer work experience wherever possible. In the past level 3 students have created and reconfigured areas of the College. Work experience trials with employers are sought when any potential apprenticeship opportunities arise.

  • Study a core qualification in a vocational discipline and continue to develop your English and Maths skills through functional skills, GCSE resits and the option of Level 3 qualifications
  • Participate in meaningful work experience
  • Enjoy a range of enrichment opportunities e.g. basketball, archery, skiing and sign language
  • Take part in dedicated tutorial sessions to review your progress and development
