Students can gain employment as a Site or Bench Joiner followed by Site Management. Current figures show that the average salary for Construction in the North West is £26,000 per annum.

The course is free to 16 – 18 year olds.

The following units will covered:

  • Health, safety and welfare in construction & associated industries
  • Knowledge of technical information, quantities and communication
  • Knowledge of  construction technology
  • Produce basic woodworking joints
  • Maintain and use carpentry & joinery hand tools
  • Prepare and use carpentry & joinery portable power.
Level 1 – 3 x GCSES at grades E or level 2/3 (including English and Maths)

Each theory unit has its own multiple choice test and practical assessments are set by the awarding body.

There are a number of progression routes open for students on completion of this course, to go onto the Level 2 Diploma in Site Carpentry or on to the part time apprenticeship course if you have gained suitable employment.

Min 2 GCSE'S E or above to include English and Maths

The course gives you the basic practical skills to enable you to follow a career in Carpentry & Joinery.

We will look to offer work experience wherever possible. In the past level 1 students have created decking areas and manufactured bookcases for schools and other departments within the College.

  • Study a core qualification in a vocational discipline and continue to develop your English and Maths skills through functional skills, GCSE resits and the option of Level 3 qualifications

  • Take part in dedicated tutorial sessions to review your progress and development
