The AAT level 1 is made up of 5 core units these are:

Access to accounting

Book-keeping and Accounts

Computerised Payroll and Administration

Computerised Accounts

Spreadsheet Software

Level 1 – 3 x GCSES at grades E or level 2/3 (including English and Maths)

The qualification is assessed by a mixture of computer based tests and projects.

In addition, to these formal assessments, you will complete a variety of progress assessments both in class and using the Virtual Learning Environment
This qualification offers a progression route to the AAT Diploma in Accounting Level 2
AAT, the Association of Accounting Technicians, is the UK’s leading qualification and membership body for vocational accountants. Theywork across the globe with around 125,000 members in more than 90 countries. 


The purpose of this qualification is to provide students with the skills, competence knowledge and understanding of basic accounting

On successful completion of this qualification, you will be eligible for progression on to Accounting & Financial Services Level 2

All full time students at Oldham College will have at least one week’s work experience placement.

The work experience programme will allow you to gain valuable experience and skills to enhance your CV and UCAS statement.

  • Study a core qualification in a vocational discipline and continue to develop your English and Maths skills through functional skills, GCSE resits and the option of Level 3 qualifications
  • Participate in meaningful work experience
  • Enjoy a range of enrichment opportunities e.g. basketball, archery, skiing and sign language
  • Take part in dedicated tutorial sessions to review your progress and development
